Delaying the Game
by Lorna Schultz Nicholson
When Shane comes along, Kaleigh finds herself unsure whether she can balance hockey, her friendships, and this new dating-life.
For the first time, Kaleigh is playing on an all-girls hockey team. Never a "girlygirl," she misses her former teammates, has trouble following the different rules of girls' hockey, and gets frustrated when her fellow players get distracted from their game. That is, until Shane comes along. Soon the attention of this older boy is taking up too much of her time, and Kaleigh finds herself unsure whether she can balance hockey, her friendships, and this new dating-life. Reviews
"Lorna Schultz Nicholson's colloquial language in her books ring true to our times and show how hockey-culture lives anew in each generation of Canadians."
Victoria Times-Colonist
"There is more to the story than Kaleigh's difficulty adjusting to the less physical brand of hockey. She is dealing with coming of age issues: infatuation, make-up, new friendships, team dynamics and a grandmother with Alzheimer's disease....Delaying the Game is a good addition to a library collection.
